What happens during a Reiki session?

The client, fully clothed, lies on the treatment table. The practitioner’s hands remain in a stationary position, gently on or slightly above the body through several positions from head to toe. Some practitioners do not use the prescribed hand positions, preferring to use a more intuitive approach. The private areas are worked on 4-6” above the body. There is no manipulation of the skin or tissue. Reiki is not massage.

What can be expected after a Reiki session?

Directly after a Reiki session, you should allow yourself time to come fully back into your awareness because of your relaxed state.  After your Reiki treatment, you may notice that you are detoxifying the waste that has built up in your system. You should increase your water intake so that the toxins are flushed out more readily. You may want to rest more, so honour yourself.

Most people feel an immediate improvement in their level of pain. Energy and alertness increase daily and a feeling of overall well being may be noticed.  It depends on the individual. You might not feel anything, but this does not mean that Reiki is not working . You might have sensations during or after the treatment such as: heat, cold, tingling, buzzing, relaxation, sleepiness, or other. It may happen also that the symptoms worsen after the treatment, but just for a short period of time, after which you will feel wonderful.

How many Reiki sessions do I need?

Begin with, three or four sessions over ten to fourteen days are recommended to remove entrenched blocks in your energy system; then once a week or once every two weeks until the issue has resolved. You will begin to notice some improvement after the first session.
Long-standing health issues are usually cleared up in five to six visits. Dis-ease generally begins in the energy field; using Reiki, and maintaining our physical bodies healthy with good nutrition and exercise, we should be able to remain active and centered.

How is Reiki a holistic approach to my well being?

It is strongly recommended that you do not discontinue any medications or session plan your medical practitioner or other holistic healer has deemed necessary, unless you first speak with them personally.  Reiki energy works in conjunction with all other forms of
therapy, this is the holistic approach.  The Reiki energy goes to exactly where it is needed so a Reiki Practitioner never needs to diagnose or prescribe.

What does the term Reiki Master mean?

In Reiki, master means teacher. Master also means that the student has come far enough along in his or her development.  A Master has taken the responsibility to become Master of himself or herself. It is not a designation used for ego inflation or to manipulate others.

One does not have to base their life on spiritual practices to be a Reiki Master. Everyone has his or her own belief system and is quite free to maintain it and still be considered a Reiki Master. The mastery is in dealing with oneself so that one is able to stay in his or her own space and not interfere with the path of another being.

Can Reiki be used on animals?

Animals respond faster to Reiki than humans. Reiki is ideal for use with animals because it is gentle and noninvasive. Animals respond intuitively to Reiki’s power to heal emotional, behavioral, and physical illnesses and injuries.

What is the main difference between Reiki and other Energy Healing methods?

Reiki has far more applications and functions than other “energy” healing. The quality and clarity of the received waves are crystal clear. The healer does not use his/her own energy to heal.

Is Reiki safe?

It is believed that Reiki energy works only for the highest good of each person and cannot cause harm. It is safe for anyone and for any situations including pregnant women and children.

History of Reiki http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/history-of-reiki/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/history-of-reiki/#comments Mon, 07 May 2012 17:12:11 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=557 Continue reading ]]> The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese kanji for universal life-force energy.  Reiki is a Japanese holistic, light-touch, energy-based modality. Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki re-establishes a normal energy flow of ki (life force energy) throughout the system, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body’s innate healing ability.

Through a series of hand positions either directly on or just above the body, the energy worker allows for the flow of energy through their body. The client’s body then draws off the amount of energy that is required.  The simplicity of a Reiki session may raise some skepticism, however, after experiencing it, many clients keep coming back for more of those relaxing feelings.

Reiki is simple and produces measurable results. It is power, light and love. Reiki transcends the man- made divisions of religion, economics, location, gender, and race.

What is the history of Usui Reiki?

It has only been in the last 10-15 years that members of the Reiki community in Japan have opened their hearts to us in the West and supplied us with truthful information about how Usui Reiki came to be on our planet. Prior to this time, the facts were either distorted or not disclosed and we were left in the dark.

Condensed history of Usui Reiki…

Dr. Mikao Usui was born on August 15, 1865 in Taniai, Japan. He was always a spiritual seeker. He practiced Kiko, which is similar to Qi Gong or Chi Kung. Kiko consists of breathing exercises, meditation,  and movement. It could be described as a ‘moving meditation’.

He studied medicine, psychology, religion, and spiritual development. He was a member of a metaphysical group called Rei Jyutu Ka. Mikao Usui became secretary to Shinpei Goto (the head of the Health and Welfare Department who went on to become the Mayor of Tokyo). Usui sensei started a business, which failed.

In 1914, at the age of 49, he decided to become a Buddhist Monk. In 1922, he went on a 21-day retreat of meditation, prayers, chanting and fasting at Mount Kurama in Kyoto, Japan. While standing under a waterfall, he did a meditation designed to open and purify the Crown Chakra. This caused him to have a spiritual awakening on the final day of his retreat. A powerful light entered the top of his head. His awareness was expanded and he realized a great power had entered him. He intuitively knew he could now heal others without depleting his own energy, as he had when he practiced Kiko.

Mikao Usui moved, with his wife and children, to Tokyo in April 1922. On the basis of his lifelong spiritual journey and his more recent spiritual experience, he developed “The Usui System of Natural Healing”. He then started a healing society named “Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai”. Shortly afterward, he opened a clinic in Harajuku and began doing Reiki sessions and teaching classes.

Just before noon, on September 1, 1923, the great Kanto earthquake struck with a force of magnitude 8.3 and killed over 140,000 people, leaving thousands more injured and homeless. Usui sensei and his students grieved for their people and decided to take Reiki to the survivors. They worked day and night, giving Reiki to help as many as they could. The need for healing continued for many years, as you can imagine. The Meiji Emperor honored Mikao Usui for his dedication and contribution to their country.

At the age of 60, in 1925, he opened a larger clinic in Nakano and then began traveling and lecturing until he crossed over from a massive stoke on March 9, 1926. In four short years, he taught over 2,000 students and trained 16 teachers. He wanted this simple technique to be available to all people worldwide.

Mikao Usui is buried at Saihoji Temple in Suginami-Ku, Tokyo. A large memorial stone was erected by his students, describing his life and work with Reiki. We all owe Mikao Usui a deep debt of gratitude for what he has done for our world.

Affirmation for Peace/More Energy http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/affirmation_peace_more_energy/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/affirmation_peace_more_energy/#comments Wed, 19 Oct 2011 17:15:17 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=383 Continue reading ]]> Affirmation:

By using some of the techniques described in my earlier posts for stress management.  Using affirmations to help change your focus of a stressful situation while using breathing techniques.  Stressful situations or experience in our life have shown to cause physical symptoms in our bodies such as fatigue, lack of energy, mood swings.  We also may take some of that stress that will then be displaced in our body such as headaches, muscle pain and sleep disturbances.  Try using some positive affirmations in your life to help with managing the stress in your life.  By reducing or removing the stress in your life you will start to notice the increase in your energy and you will be able to handle any challenge that comes your way. What do you have to lose and what will you gain?  Only you will know by trying!

Moving Forward In A Positive Motion http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/moving-forward-in-a-positive-motion/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/moving-forward-in-a-positive-motion/#comments Wed, 19 Oct 2011 16:59:18 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=376 Continue reading ]]> The only thing in life that holds most people back is their fear and self-doubt.  They allow their ego to run their life and make their decisions for them.  We must learn that we all have an inner spirit to help guide us, only if we are willing to listen.  Letting these negative emotions/thoughts rule our life will bring great frustrations in our life.  If we are able to look past the veil of negativity we will see that there is a better life for all of us to live.  Holding onto the voiced opinion of others and their expectations on us will only leave a negative imprint onto our spirit.  It will keep us in a place of detainments.  We must all come to the realization that we are the ones in control of our lives, how we feel, act and react to situations.  By overcoming these difficulties we will only make ourselves stronger as we grow spiritually.  You will become more passionate and determined to have the life you desire.

It begins when you make that one positive change or thought.  You will discover that there is a beauty beyond any description when you give yourself to spirit.  You will then stand strong in your beliefs that you deserve to have the life you’ve always wanted.  You will believe without a doubt that there is a powerful force that cannot be broken.  It will take you to a place that will protect you and carry you forward in life to the path you are meant to be on.   It is one step further into learning who you really are in this life.  Sometime it is difficult to change how we view life, unless we experience an event that challenges our view.  To understand what it is like to truly live the life we want, we first have to understand that we can have everything we want.

Why Do We Have Fears? http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/why-do-we-have-fears/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/why-do-we-have-fears/#comments Tue, 18 Oct 2011 21:38:27 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=372 Continue reading ]]> Throughout life, many situations will cause fear, but fear isn’t always bad! It can actually play an important role in your life.  It can either motivate you to achieve your goals or hold you back in a place that has you unable to move forward.  It could be the fear of the unknown outcome of your goal or situation.  It could also be fear of what others might perceive of you or the choices that you are making in your life. There are two ways that you can decide what to do when fear comes up in your life.

  1. You can  choose to look at this head on with a positive outlook or
  2. You can  be held back chained in your fear.

At some point you will have to decide what is going to be best for you and what can you live within your life.  The more time you spend on worrying about the situation, being judged by someone or something in your life is time wasted.  It could be time spent on achieving that goal to overcome your fear.  You could take what may seem as a risk and push through that fear that is holding you back.  You never know what is waiting behind that door and it may surprise you by being very rewarding.  It may even have you rethink why you were so worried in the first place. Your fear is usually based on a personal experience or something someone has once said to you. Try using positive affirmations to help you move past your fear or journal the pros and cons of what causing your fear. An example of a positive affirmation would be: “I am successful in everything that I do.” or “I am an amazing person and I deserve all that is good in life.”

This is just one step towards achieving your aspirations in life.  What is the worst thing that could happen if you try to overcome this fear?  Will the end result be rewarding and worth it in the end?  Only you can decide and only you can make that first step to overcome your fear.

I Believe Affirmation http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/i-believe-affirmation/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/i-believe-affirmation/#comments Tue, 18 Oct 2011 21:29:09 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=366 Continue reading ]]> To go with the last post:

Each morning you wake up try keeping an open mind about your situation and start each morning you wake by saying I believe.  I believe that things can be better in my life. I believe that I can have all that is good in my life.  I believe that I deserve all that is good in life. I believe that I can have and will achieve all of my desires. Try by finishing this sentence that is related in your life:  I Believe __________________________________.

Trust me by saying that if you change the way you look at things, the things that you look at begin to change.  Anything is possible when you believe.  What do you have to lose?

Believe in Yourself; Change is Possible http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/believe-in-yourself-change-is-possible/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/believe-in-yourself-change-is-possible/#comments Wed, 12 Oct 2011 20:43:21 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=359 Continue reading ]]> Change doesn’t happen overnight but it also won’t happen if you don’t take the first steps towards making a change.  What do you desire right now in your life that isn’t making you happy?  Is it causing you stress every time that you think about it because you are not sure how to fix this issue?

My favourite author quote is by Dr Wayne Dyer: “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at begin to change.”  Can you look are your current issue or situation that is causing you stress and look at it from another perspective?  Take a deep breath and step back for a moment.  Now what do you see and what is one thing you can do right now to make this experience more tolerable?

Any change that you make in your life takes persistence to commit to this change in order to see that desired outcome.  Believe that change is possible in your life and that it will get better.  Trust that everything in your life has a way of working itself out if you have a positive mind frame to make that change.  It takes commitment and a desire to want that something in your life to better and beautiful.  To make you feel light on your feet and  happy as you carry yourself forward in life.  You would be very surprised at how resilient you can be no matter what you have faced or is facing right now in your life. Change can be a beautiful experience; why not give it a try you might be surprised at the outcome.  Just find what motivates you in order to take that positive first step.

You have a beautiful spirit and deserve to have everything you want in this life.

It was an amazing weekend with beautiful weather to enjoy outside. We spent the weekend searching for new and interesting places to explore with our children. We like to go on nature hunts and walks to see what new things we will find to learn about. We found 2 new things this past weekend and then searched them on the internet to learn more about it. We found what is called a ribbon snake and a woolly bear caterpillar that will eventually turn into an Isabella Tiger Moth. It is a great way to spend time with the family, educational, get exercise and it doesn’t cost anything to go exploring. Google the area that you live in andlearn about new interesting ways to explore your city. You never you what you will learn or see in your city. Maybe something you didn’t know your city had
to offer.

Have a great week!

Why is Communication Vital in Relationships? http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/why-is-communication-vital-in-relationships/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/why-is-communication-vital-in-relationships/#comments Thu, 29 Sep 2011 00:09:19 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=333 Continue reading ]]> Communication is the key to having a successful relationship, only when you want it to work.  We tend to sabbotage our relationships unconsciously by reverting to techniques that work and have worked in the past.  We tend to not listen when we are in this state of being deaf.  This is the state of pretending to listen, but truly we are only listening to our inside voice.  The voice that is right and agrees with us and doesn’t tell us the real truth.

The key to any successful relationship since the beginning of time is communication.  Listening and understanding what the other person is saying.  Hearing the words that are coming out of the persons mouth, without any editing.  Feel the emotion from the person talking to you and finally, understand the words before making a response to defending yourself.

When we don’t listen and hear other people, that is when we become truly deaf.  There is no such thing as a perfect relationship.  We tend to think, believe and feel that we are perfect and will often react to those people that challenge our perfection.

Before speaking, we first have to understand what it is that we want to say.  Sometimes, you only get one chance at having an audience.

Coping with a Picky Eater http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/coping-with-a-picky-eater/ http://www.threelights.org/blog/index.php/coping-with-a-picky-eater/#comments Wed, 28 Sep 2011 23:57:36 +0000 Administrator http://www.threelights.org/blog/?p=331 Continue reading ]]> One of the many challenges that parents face while raising their children is getting them to not only eat but eat healthy meals.  It is not an easy task but what I have learned is that your child will not be “little” forever. Yes, some battles are not worth fighting over when a child is resisting your reasoning on a topic.  However, eating is something that should be a battle worth examining.  We want to ensure that our children grow up happy and healthy.  So we must teach them why we need to eat our meals and why it is important to make healthy choices.  This will be something that they will carry with them into their teens and adulthood.

The struggles that we face now while they are young are minor compared to the challenges that they will face as teenagers.  What example are we setting if we allow our children to win their protests over the food they eat.  Some of the reasons have to do with taste buds but others have to do with their peers, siblings and maybe other relative’s comments or reactions to new foods.  Look at some situations that you face right now with your child and how to you react to those situations when it becomes frustrating.

What do you think your children are learning and will carry with them as they get older regarding the subject of food?
